A peninsula shaped by sea and mountains
Samaná combines long beaches, coconut-covered hills, fishing communities and lively coastal towns. Distances can look short on a map, but road conditions and stops make it worth planning one area at a time.
Las Terrenas offers restaurants, services and several nearby beaches; Las Galeras feels quieter and opens toward the peninsula’s eastern coves; Santa Bárbara de Samaná is a useful base for the bay and Cayo Levantado.
Beaches and natural landmarks
Playa Bonita, Cosón, Las Ballenas and Punta Popy are accessible from Las Terrenas, each with a different balance of waves, services and atmosphere. Playa Rincón is one of the best-known eastern beaches.
El Limón waterfall, Los Haitises National Park and seasonal whale-watching excursions are major experiences. Choose licensed operators, check weather and sea conditions and avoid treating travel times as fixed.
Plan according to your pace
A beach-focused stay, an active nature itinerary and a property-scouting visit require different schedules. Leave room for rain, traffic and conversations with local guides. If you are considering living or buying here, visit ordinary services and neighbourhoods as well as the postcard locations.
